You need to do that through a Canada Customs office. You will keep the same number on the hull, but just change the ownership. They will require the bill of sale and the original registration document with the change of ownership section completed. (similar to selling/buying a car).

If the original registration document is missing then they will accept a note from the seller confirming that the boat/motor has changed hands (at least they did for me).
