the first and biggest problem i had with the few i made. was heavy waves knocking the traps off of the wire. i bent alittle "bed" in wire for the trap to sit in. problem solved.
there's so many trapping related items that a person can make themselves.

I cut roughly a foot and and half off ... pole was 2 bucks .. i had the same issue as you brag. I just put a small tight S in the end trap sits in it perfectly ..i didnt make the clips long enough for CS pretty much alll i have is LS
