A pure bred sauger has the skinny profile and the blotchy dark patches. Actually that was the first thing I thought too. Would love to see a pic. Spotted dorsal and the blotches can be prevalent on a saugeye, along with the absence of the white spot on the tail, but the head shape is most telling.
