I can speak from personal experience.
I went through the crash of 2008. I lost about 10%.
By judicious investing I survived and 3 years later had double what I had before the crash.
I'm not saying I'm any smarter than anyone else, but that is what happened.
How some people could lose everything is beyond me. I would have to know more about the details.
