Just got back from visiting my dad on the island. Fuel economy was

Calgary -> Kamloops 7.8 l/100km
Kamloops -> Courtenay 8.5 l/100km
Courtenay -> Kamloops 9.1 l/100km
Kamloops -> Calgary 8.1 l/100km

2016 Mitsubishi Outlander w/ 3.0l V6. Mitsubishi calls it a SUV, I call it a car with half decent clearance. They also say it is an 8 passenger vehicle, but you would have to really dislike the people you were putting in the third row of seats, we leave them folded down for cargo space.

I explain the differences in fuel economy with two factors
1 - going from 1,200m elevation down to sea level vs back up on the return trip
2 - my wife was driving more on the return trip
