The act of popping open lids quickly really draws attention to your position. Birds coming in on deck can really get out of Dodge quickly if the wind is strong,,, but if you can get the birds continue coming in as you "unconceal" yourself, you can get an easier first shot and better second and third shots too.

The old pop up goose chairs were really bad for creating flaring birds ,,, biggest reason we quit using them. Same principle applies for layouts too.
Good advice....especially if your shooting alone and don't have to worry about anyone else getting up quickly.
