55 gr 22-250
Many cases are designed around a certain bullet weight when first brought out to the marketplace. When the 22-250 came to market in the late 1960s it was a 55gr that was standard. That’s when I was a kid and could only afford to read about most of the new things happening in firearm developements. We were already hand loading 30-06 back then and have continuously for quite a few different cartridges but awhile back I bought a Savage Axis in 22-250. I installed a Timney trigger cuz I didn’t like the one it came with. I have a Leaupold VX-II 4X12X40 on this rifle. I really have had my best results with the Sierra Blitzking 55gr and Hornady V-Max 55 gr. Even with the 22” barrel of this rifle they shoot well and I it’s my second favourite rifle for gophers out 350 yards. I can’t say I hit them consistently at that range but if wind is light it’s around an honest 25% of the time. 200 yards is almost automatic hits. Not bad for an old guy.
