many variables play in to so called safe ice as the charts will indicate thickness but not how it was constructed.....10' of grey ice that breaks away for an example....-20 around here will make solid clear ice as we have not had too much snow fall and warm temps to bugger it all up...I watch other venture out...usually wait till Jan'ish myself.
