I repaired around 50 dvds that my cousin had skidded all over the cement floor and would not play. I used a large soft buffing wheel mounted on a lathe and white compound and ran the wheel from the center to the outside so the scratches were across the line of the spinning. All the dvd's still work.

When it was still going, the local video rental place paid me to fix disks for him. I fixed quite a few hundred of them that way.
