I just picked up a Nikon Monarch 3 today for my son, thinking about picking one up for myself too. Bang for your buck I don't think you could go wrong. You could get a leupold VX-3 for $750, but it's not $300 better than the Monarch.
I've had both and I'd either buy the Nikon for $460 or spend $1000 and pick up a Zeiss.
