Current speed. The water you are fishing could be on the fast side which caters more for whitefish. Find water that is a tad slower along seams.

Depth. Trout seem to "look up" more than whitefish and are more likely to take flies higher in the water column. I find i catch more white fish when my flies are dredging the bottom. Try fishing your nymphs about 6" off the bottom.
