Go buy what ever Princess Auto has on sale, put a $38.00, 3-9 with rings on it, and google dieseling a pellet gun.
.22 cal is my preference, only because they penetrate better(15yds through and through with a pointed .22pellet on a magpie skull)(non dieseled too)
Stay outta your yard, and learn how to shoot from a meter and a half inside your door or window.
Yes, most built up areas do not allow such activities, conduct yourself accordingly.
