Nice try Cat... quoting the larger common choice in 30-06 and the smaller common choice in .270
LOL I've never shot anything but 150g out of my .270, which I think would do the trick on anything the OP would want to bring down.
Having said that, hard to go wrong with a 30-06 as your only gun. But if you would prefer a touch less recoil (closer to the .303) the .270 would be the ticket.
