Spent a week in Alberta hunting Mulies, and Whitetail, in September, but weather was in the mid 30's. Got to stalk 1 mulie, and 1 whitetail...but no shots taken.
Now I'm on Vancouver Island to hunt blacktails. Almost got my first kill last night on a Gulf Island, but missed the shot in the fading light. Went back today, and put the stalk on a 2 pointer. He eventually disappeared into the trees. Went to another spot....came back to the area I had stalked the 2 pointer and there he was. I crept up to 30 yards, and then drew back, and released. It hit with a pop! He took off running hard, but folded up at 60 yards. Double lung pass through. Slick Trick Mag, did it's thing! Not very often do you find blacktail in a field grazing in a area open to hunting. The norm is generally hunting them on rugged terrain, in a west coast rain forest. 60 yards in field was a lot easier to find, then 60 yards in the timber and thick underbrush. I was most fortunate.
Time for pepperoni!
Exit wound next to quarter.
