It's been a few years, but I think the turn off from the Alcan was just around 101. There was a forestry campground nearby and then you took a very good gravel road from there for about an hour. I think there was a decent sized trailhead right by a major bridge over the Chowade. Unfortunately my buddy who lived up at Charlie lake has since moved on. It is a very popular spot, there must be someone up there who can fill in the blanks for you. I hope you find it because it is such a beautiful place I am truly jealous.
