It reminds me to be aware and ask a few questions before committing. I'm in your camp whereas I don't enjoy excessive drinking and late nights when I know I want to get going in the morning. I don't care what others do when it comes to alcohol or cannibis use, I just don't need to be involved. Maybe that's why I don't committ to these types of groups and perfer one or maybe two others at most on such excursions.
