Once a person gets past the MPBR of their zero, turrets or a ranging system are mandatory for sure.
at 500 the power of a scope for me is not nearly so important as clarity and being able to either turret it or use a hash mark for aiming.

I always liked to use hash marks if I could, but my days of long range hunting are long gone behind me,although I still shoot at long range on targets using both optics and iron sights.
Shooting targets on a controlled range is completely different from animal , especially at extended ranges. .

Anytime I figure I've got this long range thing figured out, I just strap into the sling and irons and remind myself that I don't!
