Try to get out more.
If the cons had wanted to get rid of the gun registry they would have brought it forward as a government bill. Private member's bills are never made law, they are just to keep the yokels back home under control, and to use against other parties to scare people.
You give government way to much credit. Take a more cynical view and it will all make sense.
