I like the way your son thinks!

I tried and modified quite a few different set-ups for panfish...finally settled on a Marmish indicator I adapted to fit on my regular ice rods. Easy to put on, take off and adjust on the fly. They come in different sensitivities/thicknesses too.

My buddy took a course on Scandinavian ice techniques. For larger fish like walleye they make indicators made out of 16 Ga piano wire. I made one a while back, I'll try to find some pics of it.
