Its not a "must" in the sense that the world would end if Calgary doesn't have a major pro team, but its difficult to name a city of any significance in NA that doesn't have one. Again, nothing really wrong with it, but they would be, by far, the biggest city in NA not to have one. It seems to me that if they didn't benefit the city, this wouldn't be the case.
