I find waterproofness to be less important the colder it gets these are gortex though and as a leather boot you should be waxing them anyways which makes them more then waterproof enough for winter conditions. My elk trackers are 800g and I love them almost as much as my wife but sitting in a blind last week at -20 I had a set of toe warmers and 2 hand warmers shoved in my boots. Still froze
