I haven't had cardhu but from what I've read of it it's a nice entry to scotch dram being quite easy drinking with no peat smoke. If you're averse to that maybe try an auchentoshan 12, very drinkable.
When you're in Scotland buy yourself something you can't get back home. I brought back to Australia an old pulteney 17, glenfarclas 15 (my favourite whisky), and Springbank 10. I'd highly recommend Springbank 10 if you can acquire the taste for lightly peated whisky.
