Default Scotch Tasting = Scotch Buying

I was fortunate to attend a scotch tasting event last night and tried 6 scotches that I haven't had the privilege of trying before. My usual is a Glenrothes that goes for about $50/bottle. Got to learn a few new things and have my taste buds treated to some amazing samples. My rankings from last night:

1) Tamdhu 10yr- All natural colors. So good I bought a bottle (~$70). My new favorite!
2) Highland Park 18 yr. Have had the 12 yr and would recommend it based soley on the price
3) Benraich- Single cask limited edition and availability, very good but a bit out of my price range.
4) Glenmorangie 10yr- Good all round scotch.
5) Laphroaig 1/4 Cask- Very peaty, the peatiest I have tried. I am not one to mix water with my scotch but I did with this one and really enjoyed it after I did.
6) Glenfarclas 15yr.- Not my favorite. Just could not acquire the taste.

If you are wanting to know more, slide down to Willow Park Liqour Store in Calgary in Willow Park. Ask for Will, the guy has incredible knowledge about all things scotch, whiskey, bourbon.
