Tenkara rods are probably more suitable for smaller streams, creeks and ponds. You probably won't see many people on the bow with tenkara rods that's probably why you're not getting many responses.
Why not consider euro nymphing? Same idea, longer rods, sensitive tip and no indicator but more versatile. You can nymph, dry fly and chuck streamers all on one rod using the same line.
Once I made the switch to euro I almost never touch my 5,6 and 7 weight conventional rods anymore. Anything from 10-40 feet euro nymphing is far superior than all other methods.
But if you're dead set on tenkara I imagine they would use the same kind of equipment. Level line and a variety of weighted nymphs. Maybe check YouTube and look some more into it.
