It wasn't always so but whitetails have become my favorite. I like them because they live in places where I like to hunt, can be hunted using my favored methods, and their rut coincides with my favorite time to be in the field. For me, nothing beats wandering the big timber ridges on fresh snow from morning to nightfall, and whitetails just seem to accommodate this type of hunting the best.
Moose would be my second, because they also tend to inhabit the places I like to hunt, and they are such an ideal animal to track.
