You will really enjoy loading for this caliber. It is very versatile. I have loaded everything from 87 grain round balls and 245 grain cast bullets over Trail Boss at 900 through 1,800 FPS for plinking and grouse loads, to 220 grain Hornady over 65 grains of 4895 for light deer and target loads to 270 Barne's TSXs over 4831 at 2750 FPS for the serious stuff. The fun part is, if you play with the loads you can get them to hit at the same POI for the various distances you would want to use them. For instance, at 25 yards the cast hits dead centre, at 100 the 220 hits dead centre and at 250 the TSX hits dead centre, all without adjusting the sights.

Outside of the TSX loads, the others have very little recoil, and even the full bore loads are quite nice out of the Ruger. Other advantage is it uses very little powder, compared to many other guns, like my 7 RUM, to achieve pretty impressive performace. Also, unlike the RUM (never download over bore cases or very bad things can happen), it can safely be down loaded to a pop gun for fooling arond with. Best of luck and enjoy the new toy.
