I use really short screws and they stay in pretty well. Even if I lose some there are so many in the bag that it's going to last me my lifetime.

I use the Kold Kutters as well for my wading boots, and I feel they work very well. I got a bag of 250 of the 3/8" ones, shipping all in for less than $25 on eBay. Not sure if you can get them locally, as I never made the effort to look.
