You can make your own ring lapping tool pretty easy. I bought a long 1" bolt and cut the threads and head off. I drilled a hole through the shank near the middle, I shove a long 3/8 bolt into that hole and use it to turn the shank. Coat the rings with valve lapping compound, give the tool 100 cranks, tightening the ring screws slightly every 25. Then clean everything off, use a marker to color the inside of the rings and give the clean "lapping tool" a couple cranks. Inspect the rings to see how good the contact is... repeat as necessary.

For bore sighting... just look down the bore and center the crosshairs. Just be aware, when centering the crosshairs to the bore the movements will be backwards of bringing the bore to the crosshairs (IE, when sighting in.)
