If you are going to get glass that has to be tripod mounted, go with a spotting scope. That way you get enough power to judge animals at a distance. Anything over 9 or 10 power will be very hard to hand hold for long. My Leica Duovids work on 8 or 12 power, not a zoom, they only work on the two set powers. I got a great deal on them used, problem is, at the $3,600 new cost of them you could buy a good pair of binos and a spotter for less money.
