There are lots of experts here who know more than I do. When I was buying my first rifle, I hunted with an expert. He shot a 264 mag. used it for everything, coyotes to moose. He said don't buy one, get an 06. I reload and have shot everything from .22 accelerators to 220 gr. silver tips.
Have lots of different ones now, but I think the advice was sound. There is no other caliber that has as many different bullets, recipes, and versatility.
As far as the gun manufactures are concerned you'll have to ask someone else.
