If you could temporarily shut off everything except for one outlet ,record your KWHrs then run a 1000 watt space heater for one hour , then check the meter's reading again , that will tell you if you are accurate, of course you could just do it for 15 minutes then multiply by 4.
just a thought.
and someone beat me to the dope growing comment.
also to trace what is sucking the power shut off all breakers and have some one watch the meter as you flip each one on one by one
