Northbound traffic is suspended right now, and southbound traffic north of the evacuation areas as well, so the people can get out efficiently from the designated evacuation areas.
Fire is about 12 KM's from thd landfill for those that know the area.

Sure hope everyone stays safe and gets out of there without any troubles.

My brother was one of the many fire fighters that responded to the last one, and the stories he has are pretty crazy.

Everyone affected - please take care.

My mom, sister, niece, 3 foster babies, 2 dogs and a kitten left Beacon Hill at 205pm. Coincidently in 2016 they hit the road at 205pm too. They were headed to SK to the their lake lot on Thursday so just an extended holiday. Hoping for buckets of rain and calm winds.

Dang, no real amount of rain last night!
Fire is about 7.5 km's from the land fill as of last night, fingers crossed that we don't have to bug out!

Default Cat pls be careful!

This is terrible. I guess I'm not keeping up but I thought that there was a big fire there a few years ago. It didn't protect the town form this one.

Stay safe.

Thoughts and prayers.

Fingers crossed for everyone affected. Pretty darn dry here as well, hoping we don’t have a repeat of 2017

2016, and this fire is burning through a lot of ground that has already burned so it is not nearly as fast growing as the last one!
Still not a good thing.

Darrel Maclean ([of Fclass stock making fame) in Cranberry Portage Manitoba has been evacuated as well, hopefully those folks come out of it okay, as well as Ruger Single and his family in B.C.

We used to live in Abasand, and went through the 2016 evacuation.

The current situation sure brings back scary thoughts and feelings!

We are in contact with friends and folks we know in Ft. McMurray and so far everyone is safe, but several have evacuated. Tough times again!

Our prayers are with you all up there.

I lived in Fort McMurray for 35 years , and I was fortunate enough not to have to evacuate. I remember driving through burning remnants in the 80s on our way to the city, having to fly to Edmonton to a specialist in 1995, because the highway was closed due to fire, and being stuck at work, while the highway was waterbombed, so it was safe to travel, but we never really felt threatened in the city. I retired and left in July of 2015 and then in 2016 the city was evacuated, and the fire reached within a block of my former home. Some friends lost homes in the fire, one had his home explode , due to a natural gas leak, as the fire danger was over, but he and his family hadn't yet returned. Some coworkers retired and moved away after losing their homes , and some rebuilt, and resumed ther lives in the city, but none of them will forget going through the evacuation, and now here it is 8 years later, and they are going through it again. One friend just put in his notice to retire last week, and now instead of just putting in his last few months peacefully, he has to worry about dealing with the loss of his belongings, and possibly having to find accommodations for the last few months.
Hopefully the weather changes, and the fire doesn't burn homes like it did in 2016, and everyone can get back to their normal lives soon.

My hope and best wishes for a good outcome for all the residents of Fort McMurray.

Also a reminder to rest of us to double check your insurance policies.

A lot of my team mates lost their homes and worldly possessions in 2016.

On average it was about 1.5 years before most of them got to walk into their rebuilt homes.

Very nice to see on the traffic cams that it is raining pretty good all across the northern part of the province and it is wetting down Ft. McMurrray. Hope Ft. Nelson is getting it too as Dawson is good and wet.
