Default Caution for Glenmore Reservoir

Just figured I'd give the heads up. Glenmore reservoir is still super low water.
Was out there today and managed a tiny Northern Pike.
Problem was how low everything was. Where we were at I don't think it got to 4 feet deep.
South-west side near the old canal.

So why exactly do they leave the lake so low?? The Red Deer river has been turned up for a couple weeks, so I figured the lake was full.
I'm sure the locals that live on the lake would like to see more water.

The city seems to do this every spring. It started a couple years after the 2013 floods if memory serves me right. They keep the reservoir at its lowest level possible until after flood season - June-ish. I assume its part of flood mitigation measures.

Not good to fill up the reservoirs with a lot of silt. Better to wait for when the water cleans up a bit

But…but…but… where’d all the drought alarmism go? This doesn’t fit the recommended narrative of panic, fear, carbon taxes will save us…. Horse plop is what it is, they were all wrong.

I've lived by Glenmore for 50 years.

The reservoir and the seasonal water levels have been very consistently maintained for longer than that

A caution over the water level that is completely normal?
Not meant to be mean, but all that is going on is you have lots to learn about Glenmore.

The west end IS shallow, always. Two river channels that run on both the north and south side shores are the deeper water you think is there.

Rent a canoe, paddle the lake and go bathymetry on it.
Or just use google earth. This will show you the channels and deep water very clearly.

Wishing you good fishin'.
