Default couple wolves done

Got one more wolf to get done but these 2 turned out real nice. It was interesting to note that all 3 of my good ones out of 10 were off the same bait, black in color and in good physical shape body wise as well. All others in other areas were horrible.

Looks good Phil,
We just finished our black one, paws on too.
I took all foot bones down to last nuckle, just last bit with claws left.
Each toe pad cleaned out, delicate work for sure, hope that matters to the buyer.

How long's it take to do one with paws?
Those look really nice. The 2 I got were not good at all. One had no hair on the back and belly and flanks were bald. The other was missing from half the neck to middle of back.

Already sold for way more than any auction house is going to pay. Got to get 6 for the guy that wants them. He is making a huge sheep mount. Kinda like you would see in Cabelas type thing. 3 more to catch next year hopefully.

Skinning actually doesn't take me long. I never timed it but I think I can do them for just over 2 hrs doing lips, ears ,nose and paws. Paws are actually really easy. I have skinned over 100 bears in past years as a guide in bear camp so these things are easy compared to that.

Here is one more done. I shouldn't have done this one but I had so many bad ones this year. This was the best one of the worst and one that I shot. I figured I would do it up and see what I could salvage from it.

Nube, just wondering if the pack of low quality wolves lacks a good alpha leader and unable to pull down moose. Also lower number of deer and heavy moose harvest on Little Smokey may mean some packs are suffering from malnutrition. Just my guess!

No idea. The bad wolves I had this year all came from 2 different packs. Just coyote colored ones. The 3rd pack all black and great quality. Weird. The coyote colored ones were real skinny and not looking healthy. We will have to see what happens next year.

Nice job Nube on thinning the Wolves this year . I like your idea of parting with them privately and when they get done you could post some pics before and after.Nice to see your hard work in a mount rather than cut up for trim

This was my first year Marty lol Hooked into 17 of them. With those magnum spring you sent me I am thinking I should do 20+ next year and that is my goal. I learned a ton about it this year and will be able to capitalize on my mistakes made. Got a couple new spots as well I think I can catch a few more as well and get into a couple more packs. I think I did well for a first timer on wolves. As long as I didnt make them too smart this year I should be able to hit them pretty good next year

Well, all I can say is, Well Done Phil! I don't know how many first time wolfers have gone out and taken 17 wolves in a first effort. I think that's unprecedented, and a part time effort at that. So another area on the Alberta map that is getting some wildlife management. Good for the moose, good for our beautiful trophy whitetails, good for the cats even, and much more.

The public needs to hear I the message that the wildlife populations need to be controlled to keep them healthy. If only they would understand that aspect as well. All the sick wolves you took were a direct result of a wolf over-population.
