Default Fishing kayak

Anyone here ever use a fishing specific kayak on a river like the Bow? Did you like it?
I was thinking of buying one.

I haven't used one, but was looking into buying one this spring. I ended up with a canoe however. Thought it would have more uses and also drier. However, if you want to stick with the fishing kayak Aquabatics has the best selection by far of sit on tops, sit ins, and hybrids (those looked REALLY interesting). Bass Pro has a couple, Also Valhalla Pure in Red Deer has some good ones. . Wouldn't bother with MEC or Undercurrents for specialized fishing models.

Has anyone tried to drift the Bow with one of these, The shapes I saw give me a good feeling that they would work really well. Could be a solid alternative to the drift boat.

Definetly on the radar but after a new motor for the boat (or a whole new rig), and a quad ... damn

Default Manta Ray

I regularly float/paddle my 12' Manta Ray on the Bow from Glenmore to 22X. It is a very stable kayak that I have outfitted with rod holders and a tackle crate. It paddles well, ferries and turns easily into and out of eddies. A kayak is a great option for the Bow. Check out www.canadiankayakanglers.com for lots of info and pictures.

X2 on the Manta Ray. Angler model comes with 3 holders and an anchor, I added Ram mounts for my GPS and FF.

I am curious how you steer a kayak while you are drifting and trying to fish?

I have a couple of different anchor set ups, I can anchor from the front or back, depending on what side I am fishing.

A rudder should be ideal for this.
I say "should" because I haven't put my kayak in the Bow... YET.

In theory the rudder should help to keep your yak pointed upstream, allowing you to slice through and slow down your drift.

Very good idea. I have an anchor trolley on my yak and when the anchor is set at the far front or far back it will force the yak to point in the plane of the wind (or water flow). I've been in some very strong winds before and the waves just slide past since the yak offers very little resistance when pointed into the waves.
