Hey, I'm no fan of high powered scopes... but I'm not going to argue with this shooters results.
At least, never having had anything to do with benchrest myself, it seems very impressive to me.

Bench shooting with irons?
I have never been aware of an SFC or DCRA sanctioned competition that involved bench shooting with a rifle equipped with irons .

Sure, just because it goes to 50x doesn't mean it is shot at that power every time .

Yup, nice clean target .The 10 rings on BRS 100 and 200 yard targets are 1/2 minute bulls ,the dot is the X ,used to determine a winner in case shooters are tied in points. That #1 bull[bottom left] doesn't appear to touch the dot to me ,not to detract from this guy's shooting ability ,very nicely done at any age.
It's not as easy as it looks ,believe me.
Love those SIII Sightron's ,nice scopes for the money.

I'm not that up at all on any organization's rules, but I have seen open sights being used at a range on a bench rest, hence my comments.

I would imagine there must be non sanctioned shoots possibly but I have never seen them .
Any matches I have ever been involve in with irons were three position in either rimfird or Center fire .
In any event that is still s great target!

You say "open sights being used at a range on a bench rest"...are you speaking of an actual benchrest competition...or just what you've seen people shooting off a bench.
I think we're maybe talking apples and oranges here.
I've never seen seen a benchrest competition with irons...but I've seen lots of guys at the range shooting irons off of a bench.

Yup, I re-read the OP's comment, and now recognize this was a competition. You are correct, what I've seen is not in a competition situation.

Of course, biathlon is an exception, where iron sights are the only thing allowed. Those guys are the greatest athletes in my mind. Superb cross country skiers, and then so very accurate with their hearts pumping at a high rate.

This guy could be consistently splittin playing cards at a 100 yds shooting like that, that’s awesome!

Guess it depends on how you define the particular discipline of benchrest shooting matches that people are participating in. Some do use irons, in some disciplines.

Exactly, some can't even group well off the bench at all, this is marksmanship!

Varmint For Score Benchrest target ,looks like a .30 cal. hole to me ,the .30 BR is the ticket for this discipline ,112 -118 grain flat based target bullets doing 3000 fps . Choice of optics for serious competition are usually 45 -55 fixed power scopes with fine cross hairs , Leupold's and Nightforce mostly dominate.
I have seen shooters do very well with other 30's,6.5's and 6's with variable scopes for local comps. High mag scopes make it easier to spot your hits on target ,especially past 100 yards.
The 200 yard target is formatted the same ,1/2 moa bulls ,as many sighters at the sighter bull [bottom right] then one shot only at each of the other bulls.
The 300 yard format is different ,that target has 2 large targets ,one above the other. The bottom is the sighter ,the top requires 5 shots in the 1/2 moa ring with an X , basically shooting group.
All 3 distances are shot within a 10 minute time frame , each shot outside the bull drops a point per ring in the total ,9 ,8 ,7 etc.

You would loose that protest. Your eyes are failing you Cat, take a magnifier, you will see it is the 10 he didn't touch, the x (dot) is completely gone. The target just to the left, it JUST touches.

All that aside, I hope I can still shoot that good at 80.

You are likely correct , my eyes are very fast getting on the blind side !
If I saw the target in real life probably !
Didn't look with a magnifier though , but if it was scored I am sure it was done with a gauge.
Bottom line of course is I was not there !
