Exclamation Flash Freeze Rain Warning

For those of you who sled or fish or do whatever in the outdoors, try to wrap it up and get home early. I know the folk up Edmonton way are used to it but us down south haven't got the ice roads yet. Either way, maybe write off ice fishing for Saturday.

You think enviro Canada could give a better scope than this, but it appears that it will be from cowtown down to Montana;

Warnings
City of Calgary
10:27 AM MST Friday 27 December 2013
Flash freeze warning for
City of Calgary continued

Rapid moving cold front will usher in frigid temperatures late this evening.

A rapidly moving cold front will sweep across Southern Alberta this evening and overnight. Along with frigid temperatures the front will bring strong northerly winds 50 gusting to 70 km/h and 5 cm or more of fresh snow. The strong winds and fresh snow will combine to generate near zero visibilities at times especially over open areas and along Major Highways. Conditions will improve overnight as the front moves off to the southeast and the winds begin to diminish.

Mild temperatures at Calgary will come to an end late this evening as the cold front sweeps through the area bringing strong northerly winds 50 gusting to 70km/h and a blast of cold Arctic air. The winds will begin to diminish after midnight however the frigid temperatures will remain through the weekend.

one would figure municipalities would be proactive and get out salting instead of being reactive to weather after the fact. It's pretty stunning heat wise out right now and lots of melt is going to freeze on some parts of the roads that are prone to melt run.

Anyways, be careful out there and tarp your vehicles so they don't get frozen shut, Vaseline on key-locks is good too, specially when out in the wilds.

Your welcome,, if you put in an American location, it won't show weather on the radar for Canada,, and it's great for getting sharper images than Google maps provides for some lakes/underwater structure for fishing.

Quick beef about CBC weather,, so the gal says "It will feel like minus 50 for the prairies.",, what gets me is, that the prairies represents an area approximately FOUR TIMES the land of England/Ireland/Scotland/Wales,, but they'll still tell us on national news about the weather in Pickle Lake Ontario. If someone knows why Pickle Lake alone deserves greater inspection than the lowly Prairies, please explain.

Tonight, 27 December
Cloudy. Snow and local blowing snow beginning this evening. Risk of freezing rain this evening. Snowfall amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind southwest 30 km/h gusting to 50 becoming north 50 gusting to 70 this evening then diminishing to 20 gusting to 40 overnight. Low minus 20. Wind chill minus 29 overnight.
I think with the snap freeze and all the melting today and more fresh snow late tonight and tomorrow morning will be a good time to not be out on the roads.
Sure hope people take this to heart as there is no need for anyone to get hurt out there.

When we departed RR23 on Sylvan at or about 3:45 pm, you could only see 3 tele/hydro poles (maybe 300 yds) down the road, highway was slick now it's snowing, if you have to drive, take it slow & easy tonight.

You could see the front coming from the east across the field. Plus 3 to minus 13 in about 2 mins. Lots of wind. East of Stettler.

Managed to make it from Swift Current to Canmore yesterday with a quick stop in Calgary before it hit. Made it to Canmore around six pm yesterday. The wind was picking up west of Morely pretty good.
