Default The good, the bad, and the ugly.

So me and the wife just got back from Los cabos Mexico. Was the first vacation alone we have had in a long time (4 kids). We landed on a Thursday afternoon and the weather was very nice +32!! So we went to the hotel and began our vaca. Drinks and dinner by the pool side, then ran into a fellow AO member on the beach (Thorne). Great night.

Next morning woke up early and took a lovely walk along the beach into the town of cabo San Lucas. Did some shopping had some lunch and checked out our fishing charter outfit (Redrum) and confirmed our booking for the Sunday full day of marlin fishing!!

So back to the hotel we go via water taxi. Well the boat approaches the shore and the skipper says "jump" so me and the wife take the plunge. I hit the sand and take a few steps when I realize something ain't right? Look down and I can the bottom of my foot!! Oh no!! So off to the doctor and $3500 later a nice new cast for a shattered heel. Glad I bought travel insurance.

So what a crap way to start a vacation.

Sunday came and I was dead set on going fishing! Off we went.

And we made out great!! The wife hooked up first 150lb striped marlin, shortly after I hooked up on a 130lb marlin and a dorado.

So that was the highlight of the trip after the fishing my leg began to swell and I spent the rest of the trip in a lot of pain. Finally found some over the counter pain mess at the airport before our flight left..WOW!! 4 of those babies and I was high as.... Well high dude on an airplane.

Got home in Edmonton and went straight to the hospital they cut the cast off and revealed something pretty gross.

So here's hoping tomorrow they can operate on ol righty before it gets infected and they have to saw it off.

Long story short. Good bad ugly, make the most of it. Never forget this amazing fishing experience with the wife!!

That's infection all day long . That's exactly how mine started , Then was rushed into Edmonton Hospital to get a central line put in to prevent the infection getting into my heart and organs .

I got other pictures but to avoid anyone puking I wont post them

My leg looked more like a thigh it was 3 times as big as it should of been .

2.5% of the time people get what's called break or trauma blisters. Pretty nasty. Kids are scared to get to close to me. Lol.

They're probably afraid you'll blow up.

Ya, those blisters are awful... I ended up with some on my foot and ankle after shattering my ankle so bad it needed surgery. Problem was, they couldn't operate on my ankle until the blisters went away for fear of getting a blood infection (due to the blisters). It took almost a month for the blisters to disappear, so I ended up on the couch for the better part of a month waiting for surgery. I seriously hope you don't have to go through that and wait for surgery! Good luck!

Thanks for the well wishes folks. Another trip to the hospital this morning revealed the break is quite severe and there are only a handful of surgeons capable of doing the repairs. So I'll have to sit on the bench for another week maybe two. Got some pain meds and I think I may head to work (light duties) as I'm going a bit crazy just sitting on my butt.

Apparently if too much time passes the body forms a glue and starts producing calcium in attempt to heal the bone, problem being it can complicate the surgery as they may need to re-break some stuff to put it all back in the right place.

Oh well a guy will just try and keep busy and dream of open water fishing just around the corner.

Well jut an update. I'm at the U of A hospital and they will do surgery tomorrow too try and piece my heel bone back together. Some plates and screws apparently. A little nervous as I've never had surgery before. But hopefully all goes well. I've asked the doc to take a few pics with my cell phone when he chops me open, hopefully I can post them for you folks. Anyways Geezle is on his way for a visit and a coffee, I have good friends!!

As long as I wake up tomorrow after surgery I'll let y'all know how things are.

Hope you have a speedy recovery and the surgery is successful. Its funny how I can fillet a fish or gut a deer without ever feeling queezy but I really don't want to see pictures of the inside of your heel
