Default Whats the going rate for an Alberta Cougar hunt?

Just wondering what the going rate is for an Alberta resident to hire an outfitter with hounds to guide a cougar for 2012? Does anyone have suggestions for an outfitter?
Ideally I'd like to hunt a remote area for a big old sheep killing tom on horseback, but I'm not apposed to any style of cougar hunt.
Thanks folks!

Byron Stewart of Tracks and Trails Outfitting. The best there is for big cats.

Plan on the $3-5K for the hunt

Talked to Byron last winter and he wanted approx 6k for a resident. Sounded very flexible with timing and guaranteed 100%. Even said if we didn't get one this season would get us out next season for no additional cost. Seemed a bit expensive but understand he's the best and like the 100% guarantee.

No way Stewart is doing it for 5k, try 6-7 easy! Brian Chorney is much more affordable at around $4000, I think the outfit is called "Big Cat Adventures". I know 2010 he was $3600 for male or female and they do very well also.

Default Please research

There are very, very few outfitters that would venture on horseback to chase
big toms in the mountains. This is not for everyone. May take a couple years.
Prices range from 3500 to 5500, and you better come when they call to go
because snow conditions are not certain in alberta.

If you want to hunt cats in the mountains on horse back call Paul Piernuik. He owns Timberline Guiding out of Sundre. PM me for details I know him.

I went in dec with Battle Cry Big Game Hounds. What he does is with horses in 404. I had a heck of a good hunt with him, ended up with a pope& young cat 14 10/16 after shrinkage. I can't think of anyone else that would put out on a horse hunt for cats like Kelly would for you. He's charging between 4-5000 for a garenteed big old Tom. Unfortunately I can't get a pic up in here

Carson there are a few guys around the old stomping grounds that are dooing good. Maybe not the horse hunt you want but I know Jason Martin Has killed a few big toms this year. Then there is wayne Anderson Who is a cat killing machine And Mr Odjers. Last I checked they were all under $4000 but don't quote me on the price.

Does Lorne have hounds anymore??

Interesting how almost every person gets quoted a different price from him. He told me it was $5,775 just a couple weeks ago. Kind of a strange number to charge but that was it. He's been going up steadily for the past few seasons.

This is old info too. Nothing recent.
I remember about 4 years ago he quoted me $4800. Should have did it back then.

For someone wanting to go on a cat hunt with horses, can't beat this warm weather for riding in. Makes a guy want to come and watch. I know we cut 4 different tracks First morning. There's definitely no shortage of cats

6000 is a lot of money and that is before taxidermy which would add up to 3000 more, depending on what you want ofcourse.

Battle Cry Big Game Hounds. Give Kelly a call. Hunting big toms off horseback is his passion and his track record proves it. If U wanna HUNT a big cat and watch some great hounds work he's your guy. He hunts HARD!! He will give you the whole experience not just a whack n stack.

I don't think so. When we were out we stayed at the Ya Ha Tinda camp ground in his tent trailer retro fitted with a wood stove. Man did that thing get toasty when that stove was going.

X2 on then Wayne and CJ Anderson crew. They get the job done and shoot some nice cats for under the $4000 mark!

Last time I rode out his camp was still in on timber/clearwater, heard he was going to leave it for cougar season, guess he must have pulled it

Must be bored again Lt . Horatio......

Everything I wrote was true ! and still is true, an amazing expirence forsure, and a great trophy to have!

The cat won't be mounted, because I am unhappy with this particular cat!
For reasons that I will put on a public form, especially while it will be corrected!

You nailed it. I know Paul as well and if a sheep killing kitty is what you want, I'm pretty sure he's your man.
