Fished from shore on Ambergris and Coco Plum cayes had pretty good luck. Lots of cudda, bones, permit etc. if you put the time in.
If you're not afraid to wade and fish you will do ok.
Wish I was headed there this winter again....

I used Omar for three days in a row on my last trip- Doctor of the Flats!

I really liked Omar and learned a lot from him. I videoed him casting as I have not seen anyone with his skill set. I watched him cast left and right handed in strong winds at good distances with better accuracy than I have seen before. I will try to figure out how to post the video of him casting left and right soon.
He was always calling out to the Permit- "Come on you beautiful looking fish"
He has taught most guides in San Pedro there skills. Met a few through him.

I stayed in Placencia for 3 weeks a few years ago. It's in the south less touristed part of the island. Used a guide called Ivan. He is well known in the area. He was great. Had a calm day and we went to fish the edge of the reef. Caught king mackerel(big ones) a few cuda, raised a sail fish and landed one gorgeous dorado. Then stopped on the shallow flats and hand lined some yellow tail and some grunts. Amazing fun day, and about a quarter the price of a hawaii charter and he brings beer and cooks lunch for you. Where are you staying? It's still a fairly large country, and hard to get around.
