Default Hard cast bullet question

This question is for all you cast bullet pro's.

I may be aquiring a new to me 45-70. I do reload but have never reloaded for this cartridge before. Out of curiousity I was looking at hard cast bullets made by the " bullet barn ". There are 2 405gr versions with the only difference being one has one grease goove and the other has three grooves. What are the pro's/cons of each?

Thanks

One grease groove works good if you are going to use them for relatively high velocity with a copper cap on the base. If you are keeping velocity at 1600 FPS or less either one works fine. I use a lot of Bullet Barn cast bullets in many calibers, they make very good stuff and are a pleasure to deal with.

I use the 405 in my trapdoor carbine with triple 7 I clean after about 20 rounds haven't had any leading problems at low velocity luse the 3 groove bullets

I've used 405's to great effect in my 45/70's in the past
Lower velocity , good lube and a good alloy mix are some of the keys to accuracy when shooting cast.

Pushed a couple hundred bullet barn and OMA cast bullets with triple lube grooves with everything from trail boss to 3031... I ran into prohibitive recoil (for me anyway) before I had any lead in the barrel...

Even took a mulie with a 405gr OMA with a TB load... Dime size in, dime size out and a solid heart shot breaking a rib on it's way out... They don't expand but have excellent weight retention I'm guessing

I you look on different web site , you will be able to find 430 grain and 460 grain hard cast bullet, and some 405 grain . I buy before bullet barn bullet , great bullet but they will told you is not hard cast like the hard cast use on factory Buffalo bore , grizzly , hsm & garrett ammo . so the 430 grain , 460 grain & 405 grain from cast performance .

this hard cast will past everything stand in front of you .
