Default 18.0 Coyote Predator

Can anyone give me an opinion on the Coyote Predator Jet Boat with a 2.3L Eco Boost motor?

I went for a ride in one last weekend. 18ft coyote with the ecoboost. I was blown away with the handling and power. Boat had 4 large heavy men in it and it blasted out of the water. Seams like resale value is bad though for boats with that engine and they sit for a long time before they sell.

For reference I own a 19ft Bratt jet with a 6.2 ls3 and I was shocked at the performance of that small engine. I really noticed how much lighter it was compared to a v8.

I wouldn’t be scared to try one.

Coyotes are nice boats, not sure about the 2.3 though. Seems like they had lots of issues in the beginning. When I had my explorer built in 20/21 I was wanting to go eco boost but they guided me towards a KEM engine instead, I went with the 6.2 L87. They liked the engine when it was running good but they always had to mess with it. Now they dont sell them.

Only about 10# difference from base engine 2.3 to L87 (eco is cast iron and 6.2 is alum, 5.3 is the same). I want to like the eco but when a v8 is not much heavier, 100+hp over the 2.3 and its more reliable its hard to ever consider the 2.3.

There’s no way there’s only 10lbs difference between the weight of the motors. A fully kitted KEM 6.2 is allmost 800lbs with all the heavy manifolds That 4 cylinder weighs in around 450lbs. Everything else you said is spot on!!! The reliability isn’t really known yet for them. Firefish also stopped selling them due to many issues.

Well the truth is its only 6# difference on a dressed crate engine, 418 for the 2.3 and 424 for the 6.2. I cant find any confirmed weights for the marinized 2.3 (can only find 507# on a Indmar FB post), KEM lists the 6.2 as 717#.

Would be nice to weigh both side by side to get confirmed wet weights, only way to know for sure. but a good guess is 200-250# in favor of the 2.3 all said and done.

Like you said I think the majority of weight on the KEM comes from the giant cast headers.
