So has anyone been to Writing On Stone Campground and fished in the Milk River and what do you recomend??
My Wife has a TRAC ride down there in 3 weeks and I am going to tag along and do some fishing.
I see in the regs there is a resovoir is this up or downstream of the campground?

I also see you can keep the walleye. If I can catch somethiing

I grew up in Milk River, but it's been a long time since I've fished at Writing On Stone. The stretches along the campground are more of a rec area for campers than anything else.

I've never caught Walleye out of the river, but there's plenty of Sauger in her. As far as what works, I've had luck on black and silver plugs, 5 of diamonds, and jigs...

Good luck!

Milk River Ridge Reservoir is not part of the Milk River drainage. It is 45 minutes from the campground.

Was down about 6-8 weeks ago and the river was like Gin. Any time after runoff it is pretty clear these days, as long a storm hasn't moved through.

Default milk river

i own land on the river... believe me in the last two weeks it went from 5 cubic meters per sec. as in clear water, to 18 cubic meters per sec. now like MUD, and will stay that way now till oct. has nothing to do with run off, and everything to do with opening flood gates on st. marys so US can get more water down Havre mt way. Lived, hunted, fished, and rec. used this river and valley for over 50 years.

Excellent info! I thought I remembered seeing it like liquid mud late one summer, but have been down around July for the last couple years and was surprised how clear it was.

Now I know who to PM for river conditions
