Default What is the best bait for ice fishing trout?

Im just curious as to what other people use for bait while fishing for trout because from personal experience I find that Velvetta cheese works the best.

Just be careful if your eating smarties when your baiting up!

good poll dude!!!
lots of people certainly have lots of conflicting ideas on trout stuff.
a little tip from the peanut gallery;
we always bring a few types of bait. it's wierd. seems they bite good on one thing for an hour or so, then it'll stop. we switch baits and they bite again, repeat every hour or so or as needed. wierd indeed but it works.

i believe you gotta watch what you use for bait! for example i believe that fish don't digest corn very well and could lead to their demise because of it.just my 2 cents...........mooseburger

I've also heard that bit about corn being fatal to fish. Does anyone know for sure one way or the other?

Don, do you have any info regarding this?

Default trooooooout

The only time I ever went ice fishing was for trout, and I used a single red worm on a small salmon egg hook and I caught some nice plump brookies fresh out of mclean pond about 7 years ago. I hear those berkley trout nibbles work super for trout.

I keep calling allen bill pond mclean. Sorry darky, my mind has been going wacky recently. But I'm pretty sure you're allowed to icefish at mclean.

I've caught lots of trout on power bait and worms, and for the bigger ones I've used anchovie heads.

The Shrimp from Shrimp Rings worked great - tear off a small chunk and slap it on a hook

Any shrimp juice and bits left over, add enough flour to make a stiff dough and add your favorite food color, deadly.
