Saskatchewan’s deepest lakes
On another thread a forum member mentioned northern Saskatchewan’s large deep lakes. I got curious.
First one interesting fact:
Deep Bay is deep. (Reindeer Lake)
I’d say that its 720 ft / 220 m depth is quite deep.
Not sure what their more typical northern lake depths would be. Still looking.

Deep Bay is a meteorite crater. Very cool place with excellent lake trout fishing. Not good to be in the middle of it when the wind comes up tho.
Sask is lucky to have Canadian Shield lakes and rivers.

Fly in lake ive been going to the last 10 years Vermilion lake, deepest i found there was 164ft. Pretty cool for a lake about 1/4 size of wabamun. Have explored 5-6 other lakes up there, found 80 ft of water on a tiny tiny lake. Caught my PB laker there too, 13 lbs.

When I go to Saskatchewan deep lake. It’s says it’s deep. Then I know I am at deep lake. When I go to Biggar Saskatchewan, I know it’s Biggar than New York City. “New York is big, but this is Biggar”......

Kind of cool that it's the same depth as the Congo River which is the World's deepest.

Daughter and I just spent most of our goose hunt 20km south of Biggar. We shot 5 days in the same fields as the super cell of snow geese simply didn’t care we were there. We saw many pronghorns, bull moose pushing each other around, chased numerous flocks of Huns and chicken, saw many awesome whitetail and mules. Biggar is way bigger than New York. I’ll admit I’m a bit biased though, as my mother was born in Biggar.
We’ve done many northern fishing trips in Sask, and yet some of thier best fishing is just south of Stoon.

Many on here have likely fished Lac Des Isles.
The channel by Big Island is close to 140ft deep.

I’m surprised its that deep. Again i have some pretty bad preconceived notions like; BC lakes are deep, Alberta’s and Saskatchewan’s lakes are shallow.
Google lake information and surface dimensions are common but things like depth, average depth, etc. are harder to come by and not even on Wikipedia’s stats boxes.

Interesting thread. Got me wondering what Alberta's deepest lake would be. A quick google says it's Waterton lake at 490'. Never would have guessed

Best Sask fact? Big Beaver and Climax aren't that far apart. Both are excellent hunting areas.

Some hogs there for sure but if you want even bigger fish or bigger averages try the mouth where the Saskatchewan flows into Tobin Lake. Just ridiculous. If you fancy 12- 16 pound walleye of course. Some don't.

I dated a barrel racer from Big Beaver for a while. Thankfully nothing like the town namesake. Pretty familiar with the neighbouring village though.

Tobin's a good spot I never caught anything over 7 lbs. myself but there are some bigger ones there for sure, Saskatchewan record 18.5 lbs was caught ice fishing.

It's hardcore fishing. Not for the weak or faint of heart. Drive your pontoon boat up the river a mile. Turn off engine. Bottom bounce as you drift towards the lake, pound beers, and suntan. Rinse and repeat.
Requires a lot of fish savvy and know how.

There’s a spot in Tulibee (through Steele narrows) that is 130 ft.

I had heard it was netted out though by the locals.

Hauled my boat into Nordic Lodge a few years ago, launched it, and used it on Reindeer .......... and for those of you know how the road is up that way - you will know what an adventure that could be.
Got out to the crater twice - and went across to other side - water was glass calm and it was amazing ...........
Caught steady lakers on edge where it leads into crater.
Really cool place - the only boat out there after leaving the camp and passing Town of Southend - didn't see a single boat way out there unless it was close to town or camp.
Found a reef coming out of 80-100 feet of water that was 4" below the surface ! .......... yikes (Trophy Pike Hunter pictured there hanging out half mile from shore in any direction).
Found a old commercial trappers/explorers long boat way out in the middle of nowhere - who knows how old - but it was an old, old shipwreck .... wonder what the story was there (see last picture right on shore - at water line)
Hundreds of bays and islands to explore on one of the worlds largest lakes - and days of seeing little evidence of humans ....
Really cool place.
Great Trip
