Default Hunting dog - GSP - Relocating to USA

Hey all dog owners, looking for some opinions please...

I've got a German Short-haired Pointer, she is almost 2 years old. Love her to bits, shes a great hunting dog and just superb with my little kids.
My work is re-locating to the USA and I'm having a hard time if I take her with us or find a home here. Hard part is for the first 5 or so months I'm going by myself so cannot take her, and it will be a struggle for my wife to manage the house, kids, her part-time work and the dog.

I want to do whats right by my dog...she is, by her nature, a very high-energy dog and needs lots of attention. That is pushing me to a decision I am not confident about.

Thanks
Alan

Oh Boy OH Boy
you have a hard decision to make
where exactly are you moving to???
would it be possible to place her with a trainer until you can have her with you,
that way you can kill two decisions at once , get her trained better, and be able to adjust to the move at the same time until yer family joins you.
might be something to think about

What diesel said. Pay a trainer 5k and get your dog worked every day.

Alabama...great place for the dog!

Thanks I had not thought about a trainer. $$$ would drive that decision but I'll look into it.

This is easy. Call Travis at Sagebrush kennels who is now in Alabama and set your dog up their. Is a pro trainer who’s just bought/leased land down there for the upcoming winter circuit.

I would definitely keep the dog! Like mentioned try getting a trailer to work her while your gone. By then when it comes to taking her across the border it is an easy process. Have a copy of her current rabies vaccination and your good to go. I would be surprised if they even asked about her at the border. I've brought pets back and forth multiple times and never had an issue. Plus dogs are family!!

I’d never give up my gsp. Anything to get them down there with me. Trainer, wife, me whatever. It’s only 5 months to manage him.

No longer need to show rabies or health certificate at border. Laws changed last year. Guess we’re a safe country now lol

Even if u can't hack the cost of a trainer I will bet a buddy or even someone on here would take her for a few months if your wife really can't handle her and u can't work out something for the first while down south.

I agree with Dean 2

I have had A Gps and I am sure many guys on this site would love to look after his dog . And I am sure he has many hunting buddies that would look after him . His only other choice is leaving it with his wife who might not even have time to take it out every day...
