Default Redfield "Revolution" Scopes?

Anyone have some advice on Redfield scopes? Money is tight so I'm thinking about one of these for my new Model 700 .270. They are owned by Leupold and seem to have a good reputation, rugged and durable. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

If they are like the old ones I'd buy one I have an old Sako Finnbear with a Redfield and it's a very durable scope. I have a new Leupold 3x9 rifleman still in the plastic wrapped box I'd sell for $200 if your interested.

Redfield has a limited lifetime warranty, ie. for as long as YOU own it. No warranty after you sell it. P&D in Edmonton sell a 4-12x40 with an accu-range recticle for $238. This price is about $20 more than buying from Cabela's in the USA. Takes about 2 weeks to bring them in. Currently waiting for my second one to arrive.

I have a 3-9x40 on my .338winmag Ruger Mk II and it holds zero perfectly. I lob 250 grain bullets at my targets, so if those don't shake anything loose, nothing will. The glass is just as clear as my Leupold VX1 , my bushnell 3200 and my Burris Fullfield II , so I definately put the new Redfields into my personal "best-buy" category.

I use a 4-12 on my xbolt 7mm wsm. Like mentioned holds zero no problem, and has really good eye relief. Definately reccommended.

Mark99 or any body else, what do you have to do to get scope shipped from states. When I BOUGHT my last scope in oct. they wouldnt ship to me and I was too impatient to wait for yank to come up so I bit the bullet and bought at wholesale.

This comes up constantly. If you do a search on this ther will be pages to look at.

Homeland security has serious issues with guns, gun parts, scopes etc. coming up here. If you want something from the states you either have to find someone you know with an import/export permit or go with a fella like Clay from Prophet River.

Don't bother checking with Canadian Customs because they aren't the issue and they don't care. If you pay for one in the states or use E-bay you could get burned by it being stopped before it comes across. And I doubt that you'll get a refund.

The best price I've been able to find for a 4-12x40 is Cabela's for $219 US P&D sells them for $238 CDN. For $20 P&D can have all the headaches of bringing them in. If they don't have them in stock, they will order them for you. You need to put 20% down. P&D says it will take about 2weeks to bring them in.

Sorry, missed the part that you were from Calgary. P&D is in Edmonton. You might be able to order over the phone with a credit card for deposit. They also have a website p-d-ent.com.

I bought one to put on a 300 mag last fall. Only shot about 20 rounds out of it since, and it seems to be holding up just fine to the recoil.
Last week I had all of my scopes out one evening to compare between them. I compared the Redfield 3-9x40 side-by-side to a bushnell 3200, a couple vx-II's, a vari-x-ii, a simmons Aetec, a bushnell scopechief vi, & a couple nikon buckmasters.
The Scopecheif was the dimmest [only one with a 33mm objective lens, the others had at least a 40mm objective] but the Redfield was the least sharp. Looking at distance it had the most fuzziness. Actually, the Aetec, 2.8-10x44 was the clearest and brightest, but I've had issues with it not being able to handle recoil [the reticle broke and bushnell replaced it for free. now it seems there's a slight wiggle in the reticle again].
The Leupold VX-II's (3-9x40) were the next best, and all the others were too similar to tell the difference.
So my advice, if you want to stay in the ~$200 ballpark is to get a Bushnell 3200. I've had pretty good results with Bushnell's service department. The Redfield will do you fine, but after my side-by-side comparison, I won't buy another one. It just didn't stack up.

By the way... I've owned my Bushnell 3200 for 4 years now. It's always been on my Tikka T3 Hunter. I've bagged a bunch of deer with that setup. The Scope has never given me any issues despite using it/carrying it a lot over the past 3 seasons. And it's more clear than the Redfield.
