Default Ice is on

Sorry, no exciting pics, but went out for a drive this morning to check the lake. 3-4 inches of ice. Didn't even see a fish...not sure what's going on. I have never not seen a fish there.

Anyhow, thought I'd let you all know. I imagine most west-central trout ponds are ice covered by now.

Great to hear!

I'll be driving out Saturday with the gear in hopes of there being enough ice for me!

went for my morning ice tour, try to check it everyday. The ice is about 1,5" thick on 3 lakes and is totally wide open water on the 4th.This am as I drove past,I noticed that 2 lakes had open holes out in deep water.I got to the area that I had been walking on for the last 3 days and at the first step went through. Even with cold overnight lows, with the +5 forecast for Monday, ice conditions will go south in a hurry.

So do you ice fishermen practice catch and release or do you kill your legal fish?

Sometimes I keep 'em, sometimes I don't.

Why does it matter?

I'll usually let them go. I will keep some stocked trout for dad & grandpa, and I sure do like fried burbot, but other than that I'm C&R
