Default A very proud little 5 year old.

My youngest caught this 32" pike out of the Slave River this morning. She catches a lot of fish, and I don't even know that this is the biggest fish she's caught. But true to form for a river pike it put up a terrific battle which obviously made a big impression. It was a little touch and go a few times but she landed it like a champ. I normally would have let it go but it was hooked deep and its gills were tore up and bleeding pretty bad so we brought it home.

She caught it on a 5 of Diamonds and when we got home she emptied her piggy bank and said she wanted to go to Canadian Tire and buy her own 5 of Diamonds, I donated a few bucks to the cause and we came home with a few hooks and a small tackle tray. Pretty funny watching her take the rest of the afternoon to painstakingly organise and re-organise that little box.

The world needs more posts like this. Thanks for sharing and grats to your daughter, the soon-to-be legendary angler!

Easy for a kid to cast, and in the 1/2 oz size pretty much any fish in the river will take a swipe at it. My daughters favorite kind of fish is always whatever fish is on the hook.

It simply does not get any better than that! Congrats to her, and thanks for sharing...some things in life cannot be purchased for any amount of money in the world. That my friend is one of those things right there.

Awesome!

I would buy her a crate of 5-o-diamonds! I wish my teen daughter would have enjoyed fishing.
As for a 5yo landing a pike like this, it must have been intense! My wife freaks out when the fish bites!

Was she screaming?

Better to see her hooked on fishing than seeking the latest phones or something.

Cool stuff !

Ah yes, her own fishing box, a fishergirl is born.

No, she doesn't scream or anything, just gets this really determined look on her face.

Its sort of funny watching her lose a good one though. Nobody likes losing a good fish but these days its nothing like that soul crushing disappointment I used to feel as a kid. She'll lose a good one, look at me and just say "Man!!!" and even though the English language doesn't posess the words to describe how she feels, I know exactly what she's trying to say.

Good for you bushleague! I've got a daughter the same age and the enthusiasm she and her little brother bring into the boat is contagious.

You've encouraged me to maybe post a few pics.

Fantastic stuff, I'm always appreciative of the little ones who catch bigger fish than me.
