I have a problem...
So my dad was shacked up with a woman in Red Deer AB and she kicked him and my brothers out of her house with 12hrs notice. (they were paying rent) She took our family photo albums out of his room and is keeping them as ransom until my dad pays her the amount she "feels" that he owes her $2000.00. There is absolutely no proof that he owes anything but is threatning to destroy my childhood pictures until she recieves payment. I tried to reason with her as the pictures belong to my mother and they are irreplacable. She was so confrontational that I strongly wanted to punch her in the mouth on her doorstep. I called the police and they said they can't do anything. I can sue her but she will most likely destroy them before giving them to me willingly. This woman is delusional and unpredictable and driven by spite. HELP ME

Remove her name from your post! Now!
Trust me it will not help your case to post her identity on a public forum.

Landlord Tenant laws are clear.
12 hrs notice ?
Id say a "standby to prevent breach of the peace" is necessary so ur dad can collect ALL of his personal belongings.
Get him to bring the $2000. She, in front of police, brings the pics out.
He takes the pics, puts the $2000 back in his pocket and tells her to go to hell.
Cops dont get involved in civil matters. He simply shows the pics to the cops, they note the pics belong to him, he keeps them.

While landlord tenant act clarifies things, this situation is muddied because it sounds more like a shared accommodation situation. The landlord tenant act to my knowledge does not apply (but perhaps if the boys were in a bsmt suite with its own kitchen & bath it may for them). With shared accommodation the government won't step in as you cannot legislate people to co-habitate with each other against their will. Imagine for a moment if that was attempted.... the homicide rate would triple.
I do like Randy's idea though
I agree it would be prudent to edit out her name, or have an admin do so if your time allotted to do so has expired. Throwing names around in he said/she said situation is bad form. Its fine if someone was convicted of the specific complaint being discussed in court though.

X2.
I would confront her (with a video camera) today and if she doesn't allow him to take his belongings, call the cops on the spot, in front of her. When they show up, they'll have him retrieve his personal effects. She can't hold anything in ransome. That's why one pays a damage deposit plus first and last months rent.
If she wants to hold him accountable for more, she has to take him to court and have proof

Thank gawd we had no kids!

Surprised no one has asked.... what does she say he owes her $2,000 for?
Again, another "shack-up gone wrong".

She says he stole a bunch of stuff... my dad doesnt steal. My brother took her PVR and she called the cops and he gave it back. He thought it was theirs. Rush tickets, a TV which he paid for, a months rent while she got a new renter, leaving a mess and for being useless pieces of...

Ya...unless your dad can prove that he was paying rent (steady debit transaction of the same amount or copies of cheques), she might try to pull a common-law card.
A buddy of mine charged his girlfriend rent for that reason.

i would try again to get the police involved, they should be able to meet your dad there so he can get his belongings, she'll have to take him to court for the 2000.00 if she can prove it

That happened to me. I wished it was only two grand I had to pay. Sit down and figure out if what she has is worth the money and if it is, pay it. Then deal with it after.

"Cops dont get involved in civil matters" this most likely could turn into a domestic blow up quickly ..

Might feel good..............until you get arrested. Then, life goes downhill quick.
Like I said, cops dont get involved in civil matters. Thats why you call and ask for a police response called "standby to prevent breach of the peace".
You meet the cops, explain the living arrangement, you still have property inside (personal property OR property for which you have PROOF of ownership)
Cops stand by and watch as you QUICKLY gather your property. They dont assist or lift or carry. Keep it to 30 minutes or less. Show up prepared.
This way, there is no "he said/she said". Better yet, the cops have body worn cameras. .....
You call police FIRST. You arrange a time for them to meet u at the house. Go from there.
Dream about punching her in the face.......just dont do it.
